The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) successfully infiltrated the backend infrastructure of an Amadey malware operation. The agency cut off a criminal operator's access to approximately 180,000 infected computers worldwide, including some located in Australia. By gaining access to the malware's command-and-control backend, ASD effectively severed the connection between the attacker and all compromised machines. This action prevented further data theft or malicious activity from being conducted through the Amadey controller. The operation represents a significant proactive cyber defense action by an Australian government agency against a widespread malware campaign.
