A Tennessee man pleaded guilty to hacking the U.S. Supreme Court's electronic filing system and breaching accounts at AmeriCorps and the Department of Veterans Affairs. The hacker admitted to leaking stolen Supreme Court data on Instagram. This represents a significant breach of high-profile government systems including the nation's highest court. The case involves unauthorized access to federal agency systems and public disclosure of sensitive government data through social media platforms.

Technical details

Nicholas Moore used stolen credentials to access multiple government systems: U.S. Supreme Court's electronic filing system (accessed 25+ times between August-October 2023, sometimes multiple times per day), MyAmeriCorps accounts (accessed 7 times), and Department of Veterans Affairs My HealtheVet portal (accessed 5 times). He extracted personal information including names, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers, citizenship status, service history, SSN digits, and private health information including prescribed medications. Moore posted screenshots and stolen data to Instagram account @ihackedthegovernment to brag about the breaches.
